Second rehearsals

Image
In the second rehearsal we were working on a short phrase for the dreams. Which included gestures reaching out towards the ceiling and sides showing the happiness and wonders that dreams can bring upon. For example, one of the gestures is when the dancer is bending her knees with her arms reaching upwards facing the ceiling. This is what I want to show the audience. Using the choreographic devices of repetition in the motif for dreams. There will be one occurring dream throughout with many other similar both dreams and nightmares. In the dreams and nightmares piece the purpose of which the choreography is going to be structured is in a ternary form (ABA). The structure uses a reoccurring refrain with the contrasting themes and all building up to an conclusion.

First rehearsal

In the first rehearsal the duet will be explored through mirroring the actions and reactions of what the effects and impact which dreams can create. Dreams can create the good and bad reflections which I want to illustrate in the story of dreams vs nightmares. The hand gestures used to abruptly touching the ears looking down and rippling down to the floor. This shows how lost and wonder is used in dreams to show freedom of the mind. This is explored with the hand gestures.

Martha Graham influence on choreography

Image
Martha Graham has had an massive contribution towards my choreography in regards to the clear relationship to the floor and the gravity. There are two of her signature moves which I explore in my choreography which are contractions and strike pose. The graham contraction is used to show the emotional connotations of the nightmare content of frustration and fear. "Movement never lies. It is a barometer telling the state of the soul's weather to all who can read it" This commutates a shattering destructive power to me through the story of dreams vs nightmares. For example, the movement of reaching the hand towards the feet emphasises the leaning towards looking for the good dreams and not the bad and anxious nightmares.
